BarTending: The Art of Turning a Playground Into Your Own Personal Gym!

If you were attracted to this blog because you thought the topic was about alcohol--my plan worked! However, before you bounce please check this out.

Making time for the gym can be the one obstacle that trips us up before we even get started. In most cases, we have to drive 20-30 minutes to get there, take five minutes to change our clothes, work out for 60 minutes (if we’re lucky), and much of this time may be spent simply waiting for equipment that folks are already using—or appear to be using. And finally, that 20-30 minute drive home. Oh, and did I forget about picking up the kids from daycare or soccer practice somewhere during all of this? That’s 120 minutes! But what if we could kill two birds with one proverbial stone by simply taking the kids to the park?

In walks BarTending!!!

The “Bar-tendaz” movement that originated in Harlem, New York, back in 1993, has taken fitness to a whole other level and simply will not tolerate the excuse of not being able to afford a monthly gym membership or the sub $200 cost of building your own home gym. These guys “get it in” in the park! That’s right, the free public park. No need for weights, machines or even resistance bands. Practitioners simply use their own body weight on the bars and other apparatus found at any public park. Bar-tending can best be described as isometrics, meets plyometrics, meets acrobatics, meets martial arts, meets fun! This dynamic physical training program is designed to bolster fitness, discipline, self-esteem and actualization for practitioners.  A combination of military drills, calisthenics and break dancing, Bar-tendaz physical fitness practice does not only transform bodies—it transforms lives. Say what you want about the “street” or “urban” flavor of this innovative form of fitness; I salute its founder Hassan Yasin for thinking outside the box and inspiring a generation of urban youth to eschew crime and violence while strengthening body, mind & spirit.

Author Biography and Book Synopsis

James Hackley just may be the most blessed individual you’ll ever meet. Despite a highly successful sales & marketing career that has spanned the last two decades, his true “calling” is touching the lives of others and inspiring them to want to change for the better.  As a result of a major epiphany, James was able to lose an amazing 50 lbs of fat in just 4 months and has sculpted his 46-yr-old body into the best shape ever.  He has learned to significantly reduce stress, quiet the mind and get in touch with his spirit like never before.  As a result, he’s been able to free himself from a lifetime sentence of high blood pressure and high cholesterol prescription medications.  More importantly, he’s been able to inspire those around him to do the same.

In his first release, Body, Mind & Spirit: The Awakening, James explores the root causes of why we overeat, refuse to exercise, live chaotic lives and fail to accomplish the goals that God has intended for our life since the dawn of time.  This is not just another diet or “weight loss” (loss of fat and muscle) book. Diets simply don’t work, and James emphasizes how we need to be more concerned about “fat loss.” In fact, this guaranteed bestseller would be better categorized as a “Negativity Loss” guide: loss of negative fat, negative habits, negative foods, negative people, negative thoughts and negative actions. This guide arms you with knowledge and encouragement to put a plan into action to finally master the things that have long mastered you.

Mr. Hackley received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Longwood College and a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Virginia. He’s an author, inspirational speaker, philanthropist, chaplain of a local chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and an active member of Holy & Whole Life Changing Ministries International in Loudoun County, Virginia. He is the proud founder and CEO of Omega Consulting Enterprises, LLC and currently lives in Sterling, Va. with his beautiful wife Angela and their daughter Landon. He enjoys exercising, running, meditation, reading and simply being used by God.
